Learn to cook healthy meals for one or two during free classes presented by the UF/IFAS Extension

RELEASE DATE: January 13, 2016

TAVARES — The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension in Lake County is offering two opportunities in January for residents to learn to sharpen their cooking skills and downsize the amount of food they prepare. The Healthy Meals for One or Two program discusses easy, healthy meals that can be quickly prepared without many ingredients or equipment.

The upcoming lectures, presented by Julie England, UF/IFAS Family and Consumer Science agent, will cover foods to keep on hand, essential kitchen equipment and appliances, nutritional needs of older adults, eating to prevent or manage chronic diseases, improving cooking skills, simplifying meal preparation and recipes for easy, healthy meals.

“Sometimes it can be hard to get motivated to cook for one or two people,” said England. “Healthy meals don’t require special ingredients or fancy tools. This program will help both novice and experienced cooks learn ways to streamline their meal preparation so that they can eat well, save money and spend less time in the kitchen.”

The programs are free, but registration is required at the links below. No food will be prepared or tasted during these courses.
