MINNEOLA — The Lake County Public Works Department is alerting motorists to a major traffic shift beginning Friday, Feb. 26 on North Hancock Road that will affect motorists traveling in the area, particularly to and from Lake Minneola High School and Grassy Lake Elementary School.
As construction enters into Phase 3 at the end of the week, the new outside northbound and southbound lanes of North Hancock Road will be used for both north and southbound traffic. While traffic is diverted to the new outside lanes, work will continue on the inside northbound and southbound lanes. Additionally, as part of this shift, the South Lake Trail will be fully opened from Old Highway 50 East to Fosgate Road.
The road work is the last expected traffic shift to occur before the full opening of the four-lane roadway, with a scheduled completion date in May 2016.
The project is part of the North Hancock Road Extension, which will provide a major transportation corridor connecting to the new Minneola Interchange of Florida’s Turnpike.
Motorists are asked to allow for extra travel time, and to exercise caution while in the area due to the new traffic pattern. Detour signs will be posted to alert the public to these changes.
