LEESBURG — The Lake County Public Works Department recently completed a new 1,915-foot-long sidewalk along County Road 468 from the Leesburg-Wildwood Trail north to Pruitt Street.
The sidewalk benefits pedestrians walking to and from the Rimes Early Learning Center School, the Lake Community Action Agency, the Leesburg Church of God, the Montclair Village Apartments, and the neighborhoods of Montclair Manor and Edgewater Park, to name a few. The sidewalk also provides access to the LakeXpress bus Route 2, the circulator route in Leesburg.
The project cost $98,574 and was paid for through the infrastructure (penny) sales tax. It was built as part of the Safer Access to Schools initiative.
“Lake County is proud to continue to use the penny sales tax to build sidewalks that benefit the local community, particularly students,” said Jim Stivender, Lake County Public Works Director. “During construction, area residents who previously used the unpaved pathway offered a positive response to the sidewalk construction.”
Lake County Public Works completed the sidewalk with participation from The Lake County School Board and Lake County Community Services.
