SORRENTO — The Lake County Board of County Commissioners is celebrating the lighting of the two multi-purpose recreational fields at East Lake Community Park, the home base for the Lake County Soccer Club, on Friday, May 6 at 6 p.m. at the park, located at 24809 Wallick Road in Sorrento.
The multi-purpose fields, along with two neighboring Little League fields, are part of Phase I of the Lake County Parks & Trails Division’s sports lighting projects. All four fields are now available for both practice and tournaments into the evening hours, and service up to 1,500 people.
“The sheer number of players using these fields each week proves that parks are more than just an amenity, they are a much-needed quality of life service that Lake County is proud to provide to its citizens," said Lake County Commissioner Leslie Campione. "We are thrilled that these popular playing fields, which reflect Lake County's family values, will offer enhanced recreational activities for countywide youth sports leagues and East Lake County residents for years to come.”
The light-up event will mark the end of the Soccer Club’s first full season playing on lighted fields. In addition to three final tournament games with over 500 players, the celebration will include food vendors, face painting, prizes and more.
The Board provided $427,000 to light the fields with funding from the Penny Sales Tax and impact fees.
