TAVARES —The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension in Lake County is hosting the “All About Palms” class at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 21 at the Extension Center in Lake County, located at 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares.
Commercial Horticulture Agent and County Extension Director Dr. Juanita Popenoe will deliver the hour-long presentation, which delves into selecting and caring for palms in Central Florida.
“Numerous varieties of palms are not appropriate for Lake County’s weather, and not fertilizing palms correctly can lead to nutritional deficiencies and weaken the palm,” said Popenoe. “This class will offer suggestions of palms to grow in our area and will teach residents how to best keep palms healthy.”
Space in the class is limited, and advanced registration is available online for $5 by credit or debit card at http://bit.ly/1Ooo9wq. Pre-registration by cash or check is also accepted at the Extension Office in Lake County during normal business hours.
