TAVARES — Lake County has proudly accepted the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2016 Annual Budget.
The GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the highest quality; reflecting both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA’s best practices on budgeting.
“Lake County’s Budget Division is committed to maintaining top-notch budgeting practices and we are thrilled to be recognized for our effective budget presentation for the fourth consecutive year,” said Steve Koontz, Lake County Budget Director.
Lake County was assessed on how well the county’s budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device. Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving nearly 18,000 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
