MONTVERDE—The Orlando Kicks FC is starting its first season in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL), a national amateur league with more than 100 teams across the country. Sponsored by Lake County Economic Development & Tourism, the team will play its home games at Montverde Academy Soccer Stadium, kicking off the season on June 4 at 7 p.m.
“South Lake County’s reputation for sports continues to grow, as evidenced by new teams such as Orlando Kicks FC deciding to make Lake County their home base,” said Adam Ashton, Lake County Economic Development & Tourism Sports Development Coordinator. “We are thrilled to support the team, and are confident women’s soccer will draw day trippers to Lake County, where they will boost our economy by patronizing local restaurants, shops and tourist attractions.”
In addition to providing local regions with a high level of competitive women’s soccer in the United States, the WPSL offers communities an affordable, quality venue for family entertainment.
“The WPSL is the largest women’s soccer league in the world, and the leading amateur soccer league in the U.S.,” stated Robbie Aristodemo, owner of Orlando Kicks FC. He noted that the WPSL was formed in 1998 and serves as a stepping stone for elite and aspiring professional and international-level players.
In fact, many former and current U.S. National and International Team players have played on WPSL teams, including two-time Olympic gold medalist Abby Wamback and Olympic gold medalist and captain of the Orlando Pride soccer team Alex Morgan. Orlando Kicks FC will be one of nine such teams in the state of Florida.
All home games will be at the Montverde Academy, 17235 7th St. in Montverde. Children wearing a soccer jersey may attend free of charge, and adult tickets will be sold at the gate for $5.
