Lake County urges residents to take precautions against mosquitoes; properly dispose of tires

RELEASE DATE: July 12, 2016

TAVARES — Summer is mosquito season and with backyard barbecues and boat rides comes the threat of mosquito-borne illnesses.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), buckets, bowls, animal dishes, flower pots and certain plants like bromeliads, cans and tires can be prime breeding locations for mosquitoes. Lake County’s Mosquito and Aquatic Plant Management asks that residents do their part in decreasing the spread of disease by draining standing water, throwing away or properly storing outdoor containers, covering bare skin when outside, using mosquito repellent and screening doors and windows to keep mosquitoes out.

Lake County Solid Waste allows residents to dispose of five tires per day, free of charge, at any of the below six drop-off locations. For hours of operation, visit http://bit.ly/29vYdPJ or call Solid Waste at 352-343-3776.
