Extension hosts September events focusing on gardening, landscaping and horses

TAVARES — The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension in Lake County is welcoming residents to the following classes in September:

Right Plant, Right Place on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at noon at the Clermont Garden Club, 849 West Ave., Clermont. In partnership with the Clermont Garden Club, the second class in the Florida-Friendly Landscape Speaker Series will teach how to create a beautiful landscape that can save time, energy and money. Pre-registration is required online for $5 at http://bit.ly/2bORqm3 or by cash or check at the Lake County Extension Center, 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares, during normal business hours. 

Saturday in the Gardens Series: Container Gardening on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. at the Lake County Extension Center, 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares. Participants will learn about container garden style, design, care, plant selection and color theory. Pre-registration is required online for $5 at http://bit.ly/2b9KC3T or by cash or check at the Lake County Extension Center during normal business hours.

Fertilizing Your Landscape on Monday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. at the Trilogy Magnolia House, 100 Falling Acorn Ave., Groveland. The Lake County Master Gardeners, in partnership with the Wildflowers of Trilogy Garden Club, present the fifth class in the Florida-Friendly Landscape Speaker Series. Participants will learn how to fertilize their landscapes to promote plant health, landscape beauty, and prevent pollution of water bodies. Pre-registration is required online for $5 at http://bit.ly/2buxfpy or by cash or check at the Lake County Extension Center during normal business hours.

Feeding the Equine Athlete on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. at the Lake County Extension Center, 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares. Learn to develop an anatomy-based nutritional strategy that is better for horses and easier on your wallet. The class fee is $10 per person and includes printed materials. Pre-registration is required online at https://ufequinefeeding.eventbrite.com.

Fall and Winter Landscaping on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. at Paisley Library, 24954 County Road 42, Paisley. Brooke Moffis, Residential Horticulture Agent, will discuss the Florida-Friendly plants that remain beautiful during in Central Florida’s cool season. Pre-registration is required by calling the Paisley Library 352-669-1001.
