LEESBURG—Organizers of the 5th Annual Wings and Wildflowers Festival, to be held Oct. 14-16 in Leesburg, are seeking nature-minded volunteers who are willing and able to assist in various aspects of this increasingly popular ecotourism event.
“Every year our volunteers prove to be a valuable asset to our festival,” said Kathy Pagan, the festival’s volunteer coordinator and a member of the Lake County Economic Development and Tourism Department. “They are our front line ambassadors, sharing their passion for Lake County’s natural resources, and their dedication ensures the event runs smoothly and successfully.”
The festival will center on Venetian Gardens, located at 201 E. Dixie Ave., Leesburg, and will spotlight Lake County’s growing reputation as Florida’s premier birding destination. Volunteers are required to attend a training session, which will be held between 3-5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at Venetian Gardens. Training will include specific task information and provide general festival details such as maps, contacts and safety protocol. Volunteers must attend training to receive their staff T-shirt.
Tasks will include assisting with registration and information booths, merchandise sales, helping with children’s activities and providing logistical and parking support. Field trip volunteers will assist trip leaders by helping to keep track of rosters and attendees. Most volunteers will be asked to work four-hour shifts between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Time slots are flexible.
