Residents invited to Parks & Trails events in November

RELEASE DATE: October 21, 2016

TAVARES —Be the first to tour the new Neighborhood Lakes Reserve or walk in the footsteps of Lake County’s earliest settlers during Lake County Parks & Trails free guided events in November.

·        Neighborhood Lakes Reserve Preview
Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9 - 11 a.m.
Neighborhood Lakes Reserve
Fenimore St
reet, Sorrento
Get a sneak peek at this reserve which is not yet open to the public
, as staff take participants on a guided hike to survey the species that call it home.


·        Quarterly Bird & Butterfly Surveys
Saturday, Nov. 12 from 7:30 - 11 a.m.
Pasture Reserve
5144 Lake Erie Road, Groveland
Volunteers are needed to assist in surveying birds and butterflies. Experience is a plus, but not required.


·        PEAR Nature Center Open House
Saturday, Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
PEAR Park Wildlife Conservation Area
4800 University Ave., Leesburg
Explore the nature center with retired geology instructor Gene Bouley. Featuring collections of rocks, minerals, fossils, shells and sand that can be viewed under a microscope.


·        History Hike: Walk in the Footsteps of Florida's Pioneers
Sunday, Nov. 13 from 9 - 11 a.m.
Ferndale Preserve
19220 County Road 455, Ferndale
Walk in the footsteps of Native Americans during this slow-paced, two-mile hike on uneven, hilly terrain as rangers offer their interpretation of the history of Ferndale Preserve.

·        Palatlakaha Run Night Paddling & Campfire Adventure
Friday, Nov. 18 from 6 - 9 p.m.
Crooked River Preserve
11121 Lake Louisa Road, Clermont
Participants will launch from the Lake County Water Authority's Crooked River Preserve to explore this outstanding Florida waterway. Navigate by headlamp, view nightlife and return to enjoy s
mores by the campfire. Bring camping/portable chairs and headlamps.
