Enjoy Lake County Parks & Trails events in December

RELEASE DATE: November 23, 2016

TAVARES Take advantage of Florida’s cool winter weather by exploring Lake County parks and preserves in December. The Lake County Parks & Trails Division’s guided hikes and educational events focusing on native plants and wildlife are free and family-friendly.  

·        Quarterly Bird & Butterfly Survey
Saturday, Dec. 3 from 7:30-11 a.m.
Lake May Reserve
36300 County Road 44A, Eustis
Volunteers are
sought to assist in surveying birds and butterflies. Experience is a plus, but not required.

·        Wildlife Hike at Ellis Acres Reserve
Sunday, Dec. 4  from 9-11 a.m.
Ellis Acres Reserve

42, Paisley 
Hike and explore the reserve’s ecosystems with a park ranger who will discuss its restoration processes and the species that call it home.

·        PEAR Park Nature Center Open House
Saturday, Dec. 10 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
PEAR Park Wildlife Conservation Area
4800 University Ave., Leesburg
Explore the nature center
, featuring collections of rocks, minerals, fossils, shells and sand that can be viewed with a microscope, under the guidance of retired geology instructor Gene Bouley.

Saturday, Dec. 10 from 8-11 a.m.
PEAR Park Wildlife Conservation Area
4800 University Ave., Leesburg

Local expert birder Gallus Quigley helps distinguish difficult to identify little brown birds. Participants should bring water, sunscreen and insect repellent.
