Visitors encouraged to experience family friendly events at Lake County Parks in September

RELEASE DATE: August 31, 2017

TAVARES—Parks & Trails is inviting park-goers to enjoy unique wildlife watching and educational experiences at Lake County parks, trails and public lands in September.

 

Science Saturday

Saturday, Sept. 9, Sept. 23 & Sept. 30 from 9-11 a.m. 

Ellis Acres Reserve, 25302 County Road 42, Paisley

Join staff on an adventure of exploration and discovery while brushing up on science. Topics may include arthropod adaptations, animal habitats, outdoor life, aquatic organisms and more.

 

Quarterly Bird & Butterfly Survey

Saturday, Sept. 9 from 7:30-11 a.m.

Lake May Reserve, 36300 County Road 44A, Eustis

Volunteers are invited to assist in surveying the reserve’s birds and butterflies. Participants should bring binoculars and field guides. Experience is a plus, but not required.

 

River Trail Workday

Saturday, Sept. 9 from 9-11 a.m.

PEAR Park Gateway, 26701 U.S. Highway 27, Leesburg

Assist parks staff with removal of invasive species while helping to beautify this popular park.

 

Wildflower Propagation Hike

Saturday, Sept. 16 from 9-11 a.m.

PEAR Park Wildlife Conservation Area, 4800 University Ave., Leesburg

Learn about propagating and growing plants and where they can be used in the landscape.

 

North American Migration Count

Saturday, Sept. 16 from 7:30-11 a.m.

Pine Meadows Conservation Area, north of State Road 44 and west of County Road 44A in Eustis

This annual bird count is held across North America on the third Saturday in September to get a snapshot of bird migration across the region.

Volunteers are invited to assist in surveying the reserve’s birds and butterflies. Participants should bring binoculars and field guides. Experience is a plus, but not required.

 

Kids Hiking Trip

Saturday, Sept. 23 from 9-10:30 a.m. 

PEAR Park Gateway, 26701 U.S. Highway 27, Leesburg

Kids can learn to safely hike in the woods and find out what gear to bring along for a safe and fun trip.

 

Nocturnal Migration

Friday, Sept. 29 from 7-9 p.m. 

Green Mountain Scenic Overlook & Trailhead, 20700 County Road 455, Minneola

Learn about the birds and listen to the birds that migrate after dark while watching then pass in front of the moon.

 

Mountain Bike The Pasture Reserve

Saturday, Sept. 30 from 9-11 a.m. 

Pasture Reserve, 5144 Lake Erie Road, Groveland

Join park rangers for a 4-5 mile bike ride around one of Lake County's largest public lands, while learning about the property’s ecosystems and wildlife. Participants must bring their own bikes.
