TAVARES -- The first public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 5:05 p.m. and the final public hearing to adopt the budget and millage rates is set for Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 5:05 p.m. Both meetings will be held inside the Board Chambers, located on the second floor of the County Administration Building, located at 315 W. Main St., Tavares. Regular board meetings will be held on the same dates, beginning at 9 a.m.
Each August, the Lake County Property Appraiser’s Office mails property owners Truth in Millage, or TRIM notices, which contain information about property taxes. The TRIM notice lists the taxable value of each property and provides information on proposed millage rates and taxes as estimated by each Lake County taxing authority, which includes the County Commission, School Board, municipalities and others. The Lake County Property Appraiser’s Office also uploads the TRIM notices for all properties in Lake County to its website at www.lakecopropappr.com.
TRIM rates can be lowered, but not raised, once placed on the notices.
Citizens wishing to participate in the public comment portion of board meetings are asked to fill out a comment card prior to the item being considered. Public speaking time is limited to three minutes per speaker, however the Chairman retains the discretion to adjust speaking time limits.
Board meetings can also be watched live and can be viewed on-demand on the county’s website at http://lakecountyfl.boardsync.com/web/site.aspx. Budget documents are posted online at http://bit.ly/23in8cR.
