TAVARES — LakeXpress is inviting patrons to join the Florida Department of Transportation in celebrating the second annual Central Florida Mobility Week, from Saturday, Oct. 28 through Friday, Nov. 3. Throughout the week, Lake County Transit will be hosting special events to promote safe and sustainable transportation choices.
Paratransit Eligibility Assistance
On Monday, Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to noon and 3 to 5 p.m. at the Lake County Transit Office (2440 U.S. Highway 441/27, Fruitland Park) and at the Citizens Boulevard Transfer Area (Corner of U.S. Highway 27 and Citizens Boulevard in Leesburg), staff will be answering questions about the county’s door-to-door paratransit service, Lake County Connection, and assisting with completion of eligibility forms to use the service.
Passenger Appreciation Days
On Tuesday, Oct. 31 and Thursday, Nov 2, promotional items will be handed out to show appreciation to patrons who use public transportation. Items will be handed out between 6:30 and 9 a.m. and 3:30 and 6 p.m. at the Citizens Boulevard Transfer Area, Lake Tech (2001 Kurt St., Eustis) and at the Clermont Park-n-Ride Lot, along Route 50 east and Route 50 west.
Travel Safety & Training
On Wednesday, Nov. 1. from 9 a.m. to noon and 3 to 5 p.m. at the Citizens Boulevard Transfer Area, LakeXpress will hold an event to help inform patrons about transit and safety.
Helmet Fitting & Bike on Bus Training
On Friday, Nov 3 from 9 a.m. to noon and 3 to 5 p.m. at Lake Tech and the Citizens Boulevard Transfer Area, residents are invited to learn how to secure bikes on buses safely, and how to wear helmets properly.
The theme for this year’s Mobility Week campaign is “What moves you?” and residents and employers are encouraged to participate by taking the “Mix-it-up Challenge” at https://orlando.commuter-challenge.org, attending events hosted by local agencies, or organizing events, activities or training that promote walking, cycling or transit.
