TAVARES — Lake County park rangers will lead a nature hike each day this weekend, April 14 and 15, at PEAR and Pine Forest parks.
The first activity from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, is a Bird & Butterfly Walk at PEAR Park, located at 5336 University Ave., Leesburg. The walk is about 1.5 miles along a hiking trail, fields and woodland edges looking for migrating songbirds, native plants and butterflies.
The second walk begins at 12 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, at Pine Forest Park, located in the Pine Lakes community, east of Eustis on State Road 44. This nature hike with Lake County Park Ranger Wendy Poag and members of the Florida Native Plant Society will explore the park's scrub-restoration area. The 1-mile hike is over uneven terrain and trails. Participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch to enjoy at the park pavilion.
For both hikes, participants should wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Park rangers also recommend bringing binoculars, field guides, sunscreen, insect repellent and water. For more information, call park rangers Wendy Poag or Gallus Quigley at (352) 742-0992 or e-mail email@example.com.
