Department of Public Works to host workshop to discuss engineering study for Cherry Lake, East Apshawa roads

RELEASE DATE: June 6, 2007

MINNEOLA — The Lake County Department of Public Works is holding a public workshop on Thursday, June 14, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Minneola City Hall, located at 800 N. U.S. Highway 27, to receive public comments regarding an engineering study for Cherry Lake and East Apshawa roads, from State Road 19 to U.S. Highway 27.

An engineering study to evaluate improvements to these two roads, which comprise a distance of approximately 8 miles, will determine the needed improvements to provide an adequate level of service for the projected traffic demand along the roadway corridor. The study will also evaluate Jalarmy Road, between Minneola Shores Drive and Cherry Lake Road.

The existing roadways have two travel lanes with unpaved shoulders within a 66-foot right-of-way. The study will evaluate several alternatives, including adding paved shoulders to the existing two lanes and adding lanes where needed for additional capacity or to provide protection for turning vehicles.

The project schedule includes an initial study to confirm the appropriate typical roadway sections for these roads before proceeding to final design for the recommended improvements. During the study, the Department of Public Works and the contracted consulting services of T.Y. Lin International will conduct several public meetings to inform the residents and adjacent property owners about the alternatives being considered and to listen to their input.

For more information, call Tom McCann, an engineer with the Department of Public Works, at (352) 483-9044 or e-mail tmccann@lakecountyfl.gov.
