Lake County Extension Office schedules certified pile burning training course on July 11

RELEASE DATE: June 20, 2007

TAVARES — The Lake County Extension Office is currently accepting registrations for a certified pile burning training course on Wednesday, July 11, from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Lake County Agricultural Center, located at 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares.

The class, which is taught by the Florida Division of Forestry, is for those who burn more than 20 days a year. Certified pile burners can burn on days when the general public cannot. With district foresters' approval, certified pile burners can start burning earlier and finish later than non-certified burners.

Topics to be covered during the class include smoke management, fire weather, planning and implementation, open burn regulations, safety and public relations. Pre-registration is required for the $50 course. To register or for more information, call Maggie Jarrell at (352) 343-4101 or e-mail mjarrell@ufl.edu.
