TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Community Services, Housing & Community Development Division, announced this week that the state is sending the County $5 million in State Housing Initiatives Partnership Program (SHIP) disaster funds to assist eligible victims of the Feb. 2 tornadoes.
The funds will be used to repair and replace owner-occupied structures damaged during the tornadoes. Mobile and manufactured homes will not be eligible for assistance unless the home is replaced with a site-built structure or a manufactured home that is certified by the Florida Department of Community Affairs, Building Codes & Standards Office.
"We anticipate that the program will become fully operational in August," said Elizabeth Eginton, Director of the Housing & Community Development Division. "Notices will be sent to impacted owners of homesteaded structures during July as part of an outreach campaign. We also plan to pass out information and hold community meetings in the affected areas at about the same time."
