GROVELAND — At 12:10 p.m. on July 3, staff of the Lake County Welcome Center, located at 20763 U.S. Highway 27 in Groveland, greeted its 425,000 visitor.
Jim Myers of Leesburg was the lucky visitor as he received fanfare fit for a king. Among his prizes were gift certificates to the Lakeridge Winery & Vineyards, Showcase of Citrus, Uncle Donald's Farm, Mission Inn Resort & Club and Fairfield Inn & Suites of Clermont. The gift package totaled more than $700 to Lake County-based businesses.

"I was totally shocked," Myers said of his impromptu celebration. "It was such a pleasant surprise.
"They are super friendly people here," he added before heading back to his job as a salesperson with Lake Square Aluminum. "I stop here periodically to pick up maps and brochures for when I have out-of-town visitors coming in."
The Lake County Welcome Center opened in 1992 at the front entrance of the Christopher C. Ford Commerce Park, which houses 25 major businesses. The Welcome Center is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
"On behalf of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners and the staff of the Department of Tourism & Business Relations, we are delighted to welcome the 425,000 visitor to the Welcome Center," said Greg Mihalic, Director of the tourism department. "It gives us a great opportunity to show the hospitality that Lake County is famous for."
The Welcome Center is an information resource for visitors and residents alike, where you will find many brochures regarding antiquing, shopping, golfing, sightseeing, canal cruises as well as many other exciting and fun things to do in Lake County. The Welcome Center also offers free Wi-Fi access, orange juice and Florida state maps.
