TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Community of Services, Housing & Community Development Division, will hold four informational meetings, beginning on July 25, in the communities affected by the Feb. 2 tornadoes to explain a new housing-assistance program available for low- and moderate-income households.
The four meetings will begin at 7 p.m. and will take place at:
• Wednesday, July 25 — First Baptist Church of Paisley, 24145 Fishermans Road
• Thursday, July 26 — Lady Lake Town Hall, 409 Fennell Blvd.
• Monday, July 30 — Lady Lake Town Hall, 409 Fennell Blvd.
• Thursday, Aug. 2 — First Baptist Church of Paisley, 24145 Fishermans Road
The new tornado housing assistance program is a result of the state recently sending Lake County $5 million in State Housing Initiatives Partnership Program (SHIP) disaster funds to assist eligible victims of the Feb. 2 tornadoes.
The funds will be used to repair and replace owner-occupied structures damaged during the tornadoes. Mobile and manufactured homes will not be eligible for assistance unless the home is replaced with a site-built structure or a manufactured home that is certified by the Florida Department of Community Affairs, Building Codes & Standards Office.
To be eligible for the program, the combined income of the household must meet the requirements for the program. If a homeowner qualifies, he or she may be eligible to receive up to $50,000 to repair his or her home or $125,000 to replace the home.
