Lake County nets 5 media awards at annual conference

RELEASE DATE: August 15, 2007

TAVARES — Lake County recently received five Red Baron Media Awards at the 13th Annual Convention and Trade Show of the Florida Festivals and Events Association (FFEA) held Aug. 8-10 in Naples, Fla.

The Red Baron Media Awards signify the highest level of achievement for members of FFEA. Lake County was presented with awards for two print advertisements, an annual report and a promotional item and campaign.

The print advertisement, titled “A Natural Wonderland,” was published in multiple publications beginning in May 2007 to promote Lake County’s eco-tourism market. The print advertisement, "The Way Florida is meant to be," was a runner-up winner and it was published in the April 2007 issue of Orlando Magazine to promote the County's outdoor adventures. The Lake County 2006-2007 Annual Report, titled “A Fresh Outlook,” outlined County Government’s successful programs and initiatives during the fiscal year.

The awards for the promotional item and campaign came from the Lake County Library System's Fourth Annual Festival of Reading. The theme for the March 2007 event was a "A Taste of Reading." The cooking apron promotional item was an ideal companion to the event's marketing campaign. The Office of Information Outreach designed all of the winning entries for Lake County.

"Congratulations to the Information Outreach team for garnering awards and kudos at the 2007 Florida Festival & Events Media Awards," said Kathy Pagan, Executive Associate of the Department of Tourism & Business Relations. "There were hundreds of submissions from throughout the state, including many ads and marketing materials from the most recognized and prestigious events and organizations in Florida."

It is the fifth consecutive year Lake County has earned media awards at the FFEA convention, however, it is the first time the County netted five awards. The Lake County Office of Information Outreach was created in 2004 and assists County departments in expanding internal and external communications. This is accomplished through three key areas: Web and multimedia development, graphic design and media communication.
