TAVARES — The Lake County Property Appraiser's Office unveiled an improved Web site (www.lakecopropappr.com) today that features an updated look as well as some powerful new tools.
"The main new feature of the Web site is the sales search," said Robbie Ross, Director of Tangible Personal Property and Agricultural Operations for the Property Appraiser's Office.
The sales search allows a Web user to track sales of homes in a particular neighborhood.
This online tool is beneficial to home sellers, buyers, appraisers and real-estate agents as it allows them to compare what other homes are selling for in the area. Criteria for conducting an online sales search are comprehensive with several different categories, including neighborhood, sales price range, year built and ground floor area.
Another new feature to the Property Appraiser's Web site is the property tax estimator. For each property, the Web site tool estimates a current property tax, as well as the potential property tax if the super homestead exemption is approved in January. The state legislature's second phase of property tax reform will occur on Jan. 29 when Florida voters will consider a constitutional amendment to expand homestead exemptions to protect up to $195,000 of assessed value from property taxes.
"The constitutional amendment is going to be heavily debated and it's going to be up to each individual to form an opinion and vote the way they feel is best," Ross said. "What this Web site will do for them is give them some information regarding how the amendment will affect their property tax bill."
The Lake County Office of Information Outreach designed and developed the Lake County Property Appraiser's Office Web site. Information Outreach assists County departments in expanding internal and external communications. This is accomplished through three key areas: Web and multimedia development, graphic design and media communication.
In addition to the Property Appraiser's Web site, Information Outreach also designs and manages Web sites for Lake County Board of County Commissioners (www.lakecountyfl.gov), Lake County Supervisor of Elections (http://elections.co.lake.fl.us), Lake County Library System (www.lakeline.lib.fl.us), Lake County Tourism (www.lakecountyfl.com), Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (www.lakesumtermpo.com), Lake-Sumter EMS (www.lakesumterems.org) and LakeXpress bus service (www.ridelakexpress.com).
