TAVARES — Lake County park rangers will lead a nature hike on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Pine Forest Park, located at 32520 State Road 44, near the Lake-Volusia county line.
The guided nature hike will explore the park's management area for Florida Scrub-Jays and its diverse plant life. During the hike, park rangers will identify different bird species as well as possibly some otters, soft-shell turtles and wading birds in the park's pond. Participants are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Park rangers also recommend bringing sunscreen, insect repellent and water.
"The walk is only about 1/2 mile with no distinct trail through the scrub area, but there will be a lot to see," said Park Ranger Gallus Quigley. "I also suggest hikers pack a snack or lunch since there are no places to eat nearby, and they can enjoy it under the tree canopy next to the park's playground."
For more information or to make reservations for the guided tour, call park rangers Wendy Poag or Gallus Quigley at (352) 742-0992 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
