*** STORM UPDATE FROM EUSTIS *** Third Update

RELEASE DATE: September 21, 2007

The following information is an update from the Lake County Sheriff's Office command center at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church, located at 218 Oklawaha Ave. in Eustis. (new information in bold)
  • The City of Eustis has set up an information line for non-emergencies at (352) 483-5430.

  • The Lake County Sheriff's Office helicopter surveyed the affected area this morning to assess damage. After the assessment, the City of Eustis Police Department is conducting a third door-to-door, well-being check within the affected area.

  • According to Progress Energy, 300 residences are currently without power. The estimate for restoring power to homes that can receive power is by sundown today.

  • After the additional storm damage assessment this morning, the affected area has been re-evaluated. The boundaries are now the avenues of Key (north boundary) and South (south boundary) and the streets of Center (west boundary) and Fahnstock (east boundary).

  • Lake and Sumter Emergency Recovery (LASER) will be deploying assessment teams into the area today to address the needs of residents. LASER is a not-for-profit organization established to assist in recovery efforts. For more information or to make donations, call (352) 483-1029.

  • No school closures have been issued at this time. School bus routes could be delayed or deviated in the morning near the affected area.

  • No boil water notices have been issued at this time.

  • The American Red Cross has established a shelter at Bay Street Baptist Church, located at 1806 S. Bay St. in Eustis.

  • Residents in this area should stay in their homes due to the potential of downed power lines. Residents that need to seek shelter should proceed to Bay Street Baptist Church.

  • At this time, no major injuries have been reported.

  • The Lake County Sheriff's Office asks that media representatives report to the St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church, located at 218 Oklawaha Ave. in Eustis, before entering the affected area.
