*** STORM UPDATE FROM EUSTIS *** Fourth Update

RELEASE DATE: September 21, 2007

  • Debris cleanup has begun in the affected area. Residents are encouraged to move debris to the curbside. Debris cleanup crews are diligently working to remove construction and vegetative debris. Residents should move debris to the curbside in three separate piles: vegetative, construction and household trash. Please do not block mailboxes, driveways, storm drains or fire hydrants with debris.

  • Volunteers responding to the area are requested to report to Bay Street Baptist Church, located at 1806 Bay St.

  • According to Progress Energy, the majority of residences that can receive power will have power by mid-afternoon. This is an upgrade of the previous estimate of sundown today.

  • The Eustis Police Department is strongly discouraging onlookers. There have been reports of increased traffic in the affected area, which is hampering power and debris cleanup crews.

  • The City of Eustis has set up an information line for non-emergencies at (352) 483-5430.

  • The boundaries for the affected area are the avenues of Key (north boundary) and South (south boundary) and the streets of Center (west boundary) and Fahnstock (east boundary).

  • Lake and Sumter Emergency Recovery (LASER) will be deploying assessment teams into the area today to address the needs of residents. LASER is a not-for-profit organization established to assist in recovery efforts. For more information or to make donations, call (352) 483-1029.

  • At this time, no major injuries have been reported.

  • The Lake County Sheriff's Office asks that media representatives report to the St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church, located at 218 Ocklawaha Ave. in Eustis, before entering the affected area.
