Park rangers to host educational event for children

RELEASE DATE: October 10, 2007

LEESBURG — Lake County park rangers will host the educational program "Hey! Don't Squash That!" on Sunday, Oct. 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Palatlakaha Environmental and Agricultural Reserve (PEAR Park), located at 5336 University Ave., off U.S. Highway 27 near Leesburg.

The program will investigate some of the insects and other small creatures that are found in the children's own backyards. The event will begin with a hands-on lab and end with a field trip into the park. Children can bring in a living specimen to find out more about the insect. Reservations are required for this program.

Participants are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Park rangers also recommend bringing sunscreen, insect repellent and water. For more information or reservations, call Park Ranger Wendy Poag at (352) 742-0992 or e-mail wpoag@lakecountyfl.gov.
