Extension Office presents 2 farming programs on Oct. 24

RELEASE DATE: October 17, 2007

TAVARES — The Lake County Extension Office is presenting two educational farming programs on Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lake County Agricultural Center, located at 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares.

The first program, titled Farm Safety Day, is from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Some of the topics that will be covered during this program include:
  • Avoiding heats stroke and heat-related illness
  • Killer bees and other dangerous farm pests
  • Canker decontamination certification
  • CPR basics for farm workers
  • Tractor and equipment safety
The second program, titled Citrus Greening Identification & Work Survey Training, is from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Some of the topics that will be discussed during this program include:
  • Distribution of Citrus Greening and Citrus Psyllid management
  • Scouting recommendations and employee safety issues
  • Citrus Greening symptom ID
  • Hands-on Citrus Greening ID training
