CLERMONT — The Lake County Department of Public Works is hosting a public meeting on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 5:30 p.m. at Jenkins Auditorium, located at 691 W. Montrose St. in Clermont, to discuss the bridge on Lakeshore Drive.
The bridge is located just east of the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Hammock Ridge Road, formerly the South Clermont Connector project that opened to motorists in September. The meeting will begin with an open house at 5:30 p.m. with a presentation to follow at 6 p.m. During the meeting, the public is encouraged to comment about alternatives considered for the bridge.
The Department of Public Works and the contracted engineering company of HNTB Corporation are conducting a preliminary engineering study for the bridge. When completed, the study will identify and evaluate alternatives and typical sections for the bridge, which may include widening, height adjustments and different bridge types. The study is being conducted to enhance the safety of the bridge, which currently lacks sufficient shoulders and provides no space for pedestrian or bicycle traffic.
The preliminary engineering study process is expected to conclude in March 2008 with a preliminary engineering report. The report will address alternative alignments, bridge types, span arrangements, typical sections and the effect of each alternative on stormwater management, utilities, right-of-way and construction costs. A recommendation will be made to the Lake County Board of County Commissioners as to an appropriate alignment, and the report will identify feasible stormwater retention sites.
