Volunteer Program announces 'all-volunteer' recipe contest

RELEASE DATE: March 10, 2006

TAVARES — The Lake County Volunteer Program welcomes all local volunteers to submit recipes for the All-Volunteer Cookbook, "Desserts First" Recipe Contest.

To submit a dessert recipe, click here to download an application. Mail a completed entry to the Lake County Volunteer Program, PO Box 7800, Room 118, Tavares, FL 32778-7800. All entries must be postmarked by March 22 and received no later than 5 p.m. on March 24.

To be eligible for the contest, all entrants must be volunteers actively engaged and affiliated with a Lake County organization. No professional chefs, home economists, food editors, caterers, American Culinary Federation (ACF) members, or any of their immediate family members are eligible to enter this contest.

The entries will be judged by three members of the ACF, Gulf to Lakes Chefs & Cooks Association Inc. will judge the recipes as submitted.

Winners will be announced at the Festival of Reading opening event on Saturday, April 1, at 11:45 a.m. at Wooton Park in downtown Tavares. The award-winning dessert recipe will be available for event-goers to sample.

All qualified entries will appear in an all-volunteer cookbook and receive a participation award certificates signed by the ACF, Gulf to Lakes Chefs & Cooks Association Inc. President. Contest prizes for first and second places include:

First place — Personalized chef coat, chef neckerchief, your photo in the cookbook, your recipe served at the Festival of Reading 2006, a photo of your recipe prepared by an ACF member in the cookbook, award certificate presented and signed by the ACF, Gulf to Lakes Chefs & Cooks Association Inc., President.

Second place — Personalized chef coat, chef neckerchief, your recipe in the cookbook, award certificate presented and signed by the ACF, Gulf to Lakes Chefs & Cooks Association, Inc. President.
