EUSTIS — Lake and Sumter Emergency Recovery (LASER) with the help of a local landscaping company are organizing a block party on Saturday, Nov. 10, to help spruce yards in the Eustis area where a tornado touched on the night of Sept. 20.
Quality By Design and Quality Trees and Shrubs is donating the trees, shrubs and other plant materials, but volunteers are needed to help with the planting. Each house that has been identified with severe tornado damage will receive a canopy tree, 25 three-gallon shrubs and 20 one-gallon shrubs.
To volunteer for the event, call LASER at (352) 483-1029 or Mechelle Brown at 407-619-7537 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. LASER is still accepting donations for tornado victims. Mail donations to 4900 N. Highway 19A, Mount Dora, FL 32757.
UPDATED INFORMATION: On Friday, Nov. 9, between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., Lakeview Avenue between Mary Street and Tyringham Road will be restricted to one lane of traffic to facilitate the delivery of trees and shrubs to the affected area. Further, on Saturday, Nov. 10, Lakeview Avenue between Center Street and the intersection of West Crooked Lake Place and Jasmine Street is subject to temporary closures to facilitate the movement and planting of the donated trees and shrubs and to ensure the safety of the volunteers working in the area.
The Eustis Police Department is asking for the general public’s cooperation during these times. If at all possible, motorists are encouraged to avoid using Lakeview Avenue as a through street on Saturday during the day. Motorists using Lakeview Avenue may experience some temporary delays.
