EUSTIS — The Lake County Department of Public Safety, Fire Rescue Division, is hosting a ceremony on Friday, Nov. 9, at the Eustis Community Center, located at 601 Northshore Drive, for 23 graduating firefighters and the promotion of six existing firefighters to the rank of lieutenant.
The graduates completed the four-week firefighter orientation program, which instructs candidates about the practices and protocol of the Lake County Department of Public Safety, Fire Rescue Division. Of the group, 16 will be assigned to stations the following week and the remaining seven will serve as temporary firefighters. Twelve of the 23 new firefighters are newly budgeted positions, which will be utilized to open two additional stations in South Lake County. Four firefighters are filling current vacant positions. The remaining seven firefighters will be utilized throughout the year as vacancies occur. All 23 graduates are dual certified as either firefighter/EMT or firefighter/paramedic.
Scheduled to be promoted to lieutenant are firefighters Tim Delaney, Bill Tillery and Mark Ricci. These three new lieutenants will be assigned to stations on Nov. 11. Three additional lieutenants — George Cochran Jr., Mike Kopilash and Ryan Dupont — were promoted in June and will also be honored at the ceremony.
The graduation and promotion ceremony will be capped with the badge-pinning ceremony where family members participate in the presentation of the new badges.
