The Lake County Library System will present the Third Annual Festival of Reading April 1-8. The kick-off event will be held Saturday, April 1, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. in Wooton Park, located on Main Street in downtown Tavares.
Activities will include jazz performances by the Tavares High School and the Tavares Middle School bands and theatre by the award winning Eustis High School Drama Club. There will be free Dragon Boat rides sponsored by the City of Tavares. The Fire Rescue Safety Trailer from the Lake County Department of Public Safety, Fire Rescue Division will be on site for tours. The Big Blue Bus a great resource from the Early Learning Coalition of Lake County will be there as well with a butterfly craft and bilingual books for parents.
The “Books are Fun” Fair, a Reader’s Digest Company will offer high quality books for sale at up to 70 percent off retail. A “Just for Teens!” display will feature artist Thom Mazak for Manga illustration demonstration and participation. The young artists can take home their original art. Collector’s Dream will be there with a display of graphic novels especially for teens.
Lake Eustis Museum of Art will present art and activities for children and the Villages Art Association will showcase works of art from local artists. Caring Canines and PAWS (Pets as Willing Servants) will bring therapy dogs for children to practice their reading skills. These dogs are guaranteed to enjoy the stories. Ident-a-Kid will be there with a "Parent Option Program". The driver's license-sized card contains a complete physical description of the child including a professional, full-color photograph and a fingerprint.
Lake County Library System Children’s Librarians will offer “make it and take it” craft activities throughout the day. Face painting for children will be offered free along with popcorn available at two library displays!
