Department of Public Safety warns of fraudulent solicitors

RELEASE DATE: December 13, 2007

TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Public Safety, Fire Rescue Division, is warning all unincorporated area County residents as well as those living in the towns of Astatula, Howey-in-the-Hills and Lady Lake who are served by the county fire department that the Department does not solicit homeowners for donations.

“People should exercise caution when they answer door-to-door solicitations from individuals who are claiming to be collecting donations for the Lake County Fire Rescue Division,” said Gary Kaiser, Director of the Lake County Department of Public Safety.

This public reminder is being issued as a result of several reports that were received recently by the Department of Public Safety that individuals in the community were claiming to be selling items where a share of the proceeds would benefit the Lake County Fire Rescue Division.
