TAVARES — Lake County farmers and ranchers can begin to look for their copy of the 2007 U.S. Census of Agriculture in their mailboxes in early January 2008.
According to www.agcensus.usda.gov, the Census of Agriculture is taken every five years and is a complete count of U.S. farms and ranches and the people who operate them. The census looks at land use and ownership, operator characteristics, production practices, income and expenditures and many other areas. The census provides the only source of uniform, comprehensive agricultural data for every county in the nation.
Completed census forms are due by Feb. 4, 2008. If any Lake County residents, who are involved in agriculture, do not receive a census form in the mail, additional copies are available at the Lake County Agricultural Center, located at 1951 Woodlea Road in Tavares. For more information, call Maggie Jarrell with the Lake County Extension Office at (352) 343-4101.
