TAVARES — The City of Tavares is holding a contest to choose a name for each of its two new water taxis.
Winners of the contest will get the opportunity to help Tavares Mayor Nancy Clutts christen the boats on their maiden voyages at a dedication ceremony later this year. Once the surplus property of Broward County, the boats were transferred to Tavares in November 2007 and refurbished for the benefit of Tavares residents and visitors to Wooton Park.
“We are excited to offer our residents and visitors yet another mode of transportation to enjoy the City of Tavares and its unique waterfront location," said Tavares City Administrator John Drury. “We will now be able to offer them a scenic, relaxing, air-conditioned boat ride between Tavares and Mount Dora during our special events.”
To enter the contest, contestants should submit an official entry form. Forms are available on the City of Tavares Web site at www.tavares.org, or at Tavares City Hall, located at 201 E. Main St. Tavares, FL 32778. All completed entry forms must be mailed or delivered to City Hall by Friday, Feb. 15, at 5 p.m. For more information, call Jennifer Polk at (352) 742-6209.
