EUSTIS — The Lake County Housing Agency of the Lake County Department of Community Services, Housing & Community Development Division, is announcing that on Monday, March 3, it will open the waiting list for Section 8 Housing vouchers.
The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program is funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The purpose of the program is to make rental housing affordable to very low-income families with incomes below 50 percent of the area median income. Eligibility for a rental voucher is determined based on the total annual gross income and family size. Due to a long waiting list and a shortage of funding, the Section 8 Housing program in Lake County has been closed for several years.
The waiting list will be opened at March 3 at 10 a.m. and will remain opened until Wednesday, March 5, at 2 p.m. Interested applicants have two ways to apply for the program; online or filling out a paper application. During the three days between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., paper applications will be available at the Lake County Fairgrounds, located at 2101 County Road 452 in Eustis.
Applicants can also apply online by logging on to: https://www.lakecountyfl.gov/departments/community_services/housing_and_community/
voucher_application.aspx, which will be open from 10 a.m. on March 3 to 2 p.m. on March 5. English and Spanish capabilities will be available for each application process.
