TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Public Safety participated in a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) drill on March 31, April 1 and 2 at the Lake Technical Center, Institute of Public Safety Fire Academy, located at 1565 Lane Park Cutoff in Tavares.
Multiple public-safety agencies participated in the drill, which was coordinated and hosted by the Lake Technical Center, including the fire departments of Lake County, Tavares, Mount Dora and Leesburg; law-enforcement agencies of the Lake County Sheriff's Office, Leesburg, Tavares and Mount Dora; Lake County School Board; Lake-Sumter Emergency Medical Services; and Lake County Emergency Management Division.
The drill simulated a traffic accident involving a school bus and two passenger vehicles. The accident involved nearly two dozen patients. The drill will be repeated each day; however, different agencies filled different roles.
"From our point of view, these exercises assisted the participating agencies with practicing on how to work together during times of disaster," said Jerry Smith, Director of the Lake County Emergency Management Division.
