LEESBURG — Lake County's park rangers will lead a nature hike on Saturday, April 12, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at PEAR Park, located at 5336 University Ave., Leesburg.
During the 1.5 to 2 mile hike, rangers will identify songbirds that are arriving from their wintering grounds in South and Central America.
"With any luck we'll see birds such as the Northern Parula, Yellow-Throated Warbler, American Redstart and many other species in brilliant breeding plumage," said Gallus Quigley, a park ranger with the Lake County Parks & Trails Division. "April is the peak month for spring migration in Florida and though most of the migrants hit the gulf coast, Lake County will get its fair share of these amazing and beautiful creatures."
Participants are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Park rangers also recommend bringing binoculars, field guides, sunscreen, insect repellent, water and a snack.
For more information or to make reservations for the guided nature hike, call Park Ranger Gallus Quigley at (352) 742-0992 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
