County Commission honors retiring committee chairman

RELEASE DATE: April 4, 2006

TAVARES — The Lake County Board of County Commissioners honored Carl Lunderstadt at its regularly scheduled meeting on April 4 for his dedication and hard work as a 12-year member of the Lake County Industrial Development Authority (IDA).

South Lake Connector
Chairman of the IDA since 1996, Lunderstadt was appointed to the volunteer committee on July 5, 1994. He is also a former board member of the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission.

“I think one of the major accomplishments of the IDA was to help the County with establishing the Christopher C. Ford Commerce Park,” he said.

The commerce park of more than 700 acres is located near the crossroads of U.S. Highway 27 and the Florida Turnpike. According to Greg Mihalic, Director of the Lake County Department of Economic Development and Tourism, industries at the commerce park, such as Circuit City and Goodyear, brought more than 1,400 new jobs to Lake County.

Another accomplishment of the IDA with Lunderstadt at the helm is the creation of the Lake County’s Jobs Growth Investment (JGI) Trust Fund. The County established the fund to assist business expansion and relocation projects deemed to be economically significant to Lake County.

“Our goal is to help provide meaningful and beneficial new high-wage jobs to Lake County,” Lunderstadt said.

The Lake County Commission honored Lunderstadt with a plaque for his dedicated service to the County and some kind words from Commissioners Catherine Hanson and Welton Cadwell.

“Carl has done an outstanding job over the years for Lake County,” said Chairman Hanson.
Commissioner Cadwell added, “He treated that [volunteer] position as if it was his real job. We wouldn’t be where we’re at if it wasn’t for people like Carl.”
