Firefighters respond to brush fire in northeast Lake County

RELEASE DATE: May 21, 2008

LAKE KATHRYN — Units from nine stations of the Lake County Department of Public Safety, Fire Rescue Division, in addition to support from the Mount Dora, Eustis and Minneola municipal fire departments are responding to a brush fire near Lake Kathryn, an unincorporated community of Lake County.

At approximately 40 acres in size as of 2:45 p.m., the brush fire, which originated near the intersection of Jane Lane and County Road 42, is burning east toward Deerhaven Road. Public safety officials are encouraging motorists to avoid the area.

Residents of the Deerhaven community are currently being evacuated by fire personnel. The homes are not necessarily in danger but the community could be shut off from County Road 42 as the fire approaches Deerhaven Road. A shelter is being established at the First Baptist Church of Paisley, located at 25145 Fishermans Road.
