Firefighters continue to work a 1,000-acre fire located in the Ocala National Forest. The Tracy Fire started Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. and is 20 percent contained. Investigators from the U.S. Forest Service, Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Agriculture are working to determine the cause of the fire.
Today, a hotshot crew of 19 firefighters will hike into the in the Alexander Springs Wilderness Area to conduct burnout operations. Resources on the fire include firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service, Florida Division of Forestry and Lake County Fire Rescue Division along with assistance from air tankers and helicopters.
An evacuation remains in place for residents in the Deerhaven community. Officials have closed Forest Road 539 to local traffic to facilitate fire suppression activities. County Road 42 is open. Motorists are cautioned to drive slowly with lights on while traveling in smoky areas.
