TAVARES — The Friends of the Horticultural Learning Center are presenting on Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. “Art in the Garden” at the University of Florida/Lake County Extension Services, Discovery Gardens, located at 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares.
With more than 20 themed gardens, the Discovery Gardens is a hands-on learning tool for homeowners, garden enthusiasts, educators and children. During the fund-raising event, plein air (in the open air) artists will be located throughout the gardens recreating the beauty of the gardens on canvas. In addition, several Lake County artists will offer their work for sale and Lake County Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions and offer advice.
Another feature of “Art in the Garden” is the Lake County Mobile Plant Clinic. The clinic has garnered multiple decorations including international honors and an achievement award from the National Association of Counties. The clinic provides important educational materials to citizens about horticultural and other services provided by various Lake County departments.
The event costs $5 per individual or $8 per couple. Free admission is available for Master Gardeners and Friends of the Horticultural Learning Center. Revenues from the event will assist Friends of the Horticultural Center to sponsor educational programs and speakers throughout the year.
