TAVARES — The Lake County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) will be competing in the 2008 Field Day for 24 hours beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, at Lake Idamere Park, located at 12335 County Road 448 in Tavares.
The objective of the nationwide competition is for local radio emergency services to test their gear and equipment under emergency field conditions. To test their equipment, radio emergency services must attempt to contact as many of the 80 different ARES sections in the United States and Canada using different frequency bands and modes.
Agencies assisting the Lake County ARES during the field day include the Lake County Department of Public Safety, Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Southern Baptist Disaster Relief.
