Annual Back-to-School Safety Fair is on Aug. 2

RELEASE DATE: July 22, 2008

LEESBURG — The Lake County Community Traffic Safety Team (CTST), in cooperation with the Lake County Department of Public Works, local law enforcement agencies and the Lake Square Mall, will host the 2008 Back-to-School Safety Fair on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the mall, located at 10401 U.S. Highway 441 in Leesburg.

An annual event, the fair provides families an opportunity to prepare for the school year by offering several important safety programs including bicycle and helmet safety, a child-seat checkpoint, school immunizations, dental screenings and child identification. The fair will feature other services, such as the Lake County Sheriff’s Office bloodhounds, Lake County Schools’ Parent Resources, State of Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Florida Department of Health’s KidCare, Lake County Department of Environmental Utilities and Children’s Home Society.

“Lake County families are encouraged to attend this event to learn how to safely prepare for the start of the school year,” said Noble Olasimbo, Chairman of the CTST.

At the Back-to-School Safety Fair, children can also enjoy several fun activities, including meeting Sir Gus Jr., the kissing camel. Publix, Coca-Cola, AAA Auto Club South and the 18th Masonic District are sponsors of the 2008 Back-to-School Safety Fair.

The Lake County CTST is a multi-jurisdictional agency with cooperation between Lake County, its municipalities, other organizations and concerned citizens. The CTST uses a multi-disciplinary approach to solve roadway safety problems in Lake County. The team is comprised of individuals representing engineering, law enforcement, emergency services, traffic-safety education and the public.
