Lake County advises residents of how to dispose of yard waste left behind by Tropical Storm Fay

RELEASE DATE: August 28, 2008

TAVARES — To dispose of branches, twigs, leaves and other vegetative debris left behind by Tropical Storm Fay, the Lake County Department of Environmental Utilities requests residents of unincorporated Lake County to follow the everyday guidelines for yard-waste disposal.

For curbside collection, residents are required to place yard waste in bags or cans weighing no more than 50 pounds. Limbs and branches no bigger than 6 inches around and 4 feet in length must be bundled, also weighing no more than 50 pounds. Yard waste must be brought to the Lake County Central Solid Waste Facility (landfill) if it exceeds the weight, length, and diameter limits for curbside collection.

Additional options for disposing of yard waste are at Lake County’s six residential drop-offs. The addresses and hours of operation for each location are:
• Lake County Landfill, 13130 County Landfill Road, Tavares
(Monday-Saturday, 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.)

• Astor Residential Drop-off, 54721 Astor Transfer Station Road
(Tuesday & Saturday, 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.)

• Lady Lake Residential Drop-off, 1200 Jackson St.
