TAVARES — The Lake County Elder Affairs Coordinating Council is hosting an Elder Expo on Tuesday, Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Lake County Agricultural Center, located at 1951 Woodlea Road in Tavares.
"In the past, the Elder Affairs Coordinating Council has hosted an annual symposium that featured an agenda of speakers," said Allison Thall, Director of the Lake County Department of Community Services, Citizen Support Services Division. "This year’s free expo is more inclusive and interactive with various demonstrations, tours and free blood-pressure and diabetes checks.”
The theme of the Elder Expo is “A Tour of Good Health, Good Food and Gardens.” The expo includes health screenings, informational speakers, tours of Discovery Gardens, pneumonia shots, door prizes and cooking demonstrations. Speakers at the expo will cover a variety of topics, including wills, trusts and estates; financial planning; and stroke and brain injuries. The expo also features 24 vendors and Operation Medicine Chest, which is a lockbox for individuals to discard outdated or unwanted medicines that will be properly disposed of by the Sheriff’s Office.
