Extension readies for second installment of Timely Topics series

RELEASE DATE: October 29, 2008

TAVARES — The second class in the Lake County Extension Office’s Timely Topics series is “Quick, Healthy Meals for 1 or 2” on Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, Nov. 6, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Lake County Agricultural Center, located at 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares.

At the “Quick, Healthy Meals for 1 or 2” programs, participants will learn how to downsize meals without reducing nutrition or flavor. Healthy and tasty meals don’t have to take a lot of time to prepare. The “Quick, Healthy Meals for 1 or 2” classes will help participants reduce their favorite recipes, choose wisely when eating out, use healthy cooking methods and provide ideas for convenient, economical cooking.

“Sometimes it can be uninspiring to prepare meals for one or two people,” said Julie England, a Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent with the Lake County Extension Office. “It is important to prepare healthy meals no matter whether you are fixing food for a couple of people or a large family.”

The Timely Topics series will continue until April with one program presented each month, except February, which will have two programs. All programs are free and provide research-based information that participants can use to improve or enhance their daily lives. All programs during the Timely Topics series will be offered in the daytime and evening.

Pre-registration is appreciated but not required for Timely Topics. For more information or to register, call Rene Bass at (352) 343-4101 or e-mail rcbass@ufl.edu
