TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Public Safety, Emergency Management Division, would like to remind residents who suffered damages from Tropical Storm Fay that the deadline to register for federal-state disaster assistance is Monday, Nov. 10.
Recovery officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State Emergency Response Team urge any residents still waiting for insurance settlements or other documentation to register without delay. The last of two disaster recovery centers in Lake County closed in the Astor community on Monday.
Residents can apply online at www.fema.gov or by calling (800) 621-3362. The hard of hearing, deaf or speech impaired may apply through the TTY number at (800) 462-7585. Multilingual operators are available to speak to applicants. The toll-free telephone numbers are open from 7 a.m. to 12 a.m. daily until further notice.
A helpline option is also available by calling the FEMA toll-free numbers listed above, which also serve as FEMA’s Helpline. Applicants may ask questions about disaster assistance programs or the status of their previously filed applications, or request an appeal.
