Lake County unveils online registry to promote local artists, musicians and cultural venues

RELEASE DATE: November 4, 2008

TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Tourism & Business Relations recently introduced a new online tool that is designed to help promote and connect local artists, musicians and cultural venues.

The Lake County Artist Registry is free to use as it provides a conduit between the artistic community and potential users. Artists, musicians and cultural venues are encouraged to sign up for the Artist Registry by providing contact information, such as a physical address, telephone number and e-mail address.

“Lake County has an abundance of talented artists,” said Kathy Pagan, Tourism Specialist with the Lake County Department of Tourism & Business Relations. “The Registry is a great resource for them and it makes it possible to promote all they offer, whether to event organizers searching for talent, a ‘call for artists’ for competitions or patrons searching for unique galleries. This online tool can be a one-stop source for everything creative in Lake County.”

In addition to contact information for artists, the Lake County Artist Registry provides artists an opportunity to upload examples of their work as well as short concept statements about their work. Another anticipated benefit of the online artist registry is it will inspire collaboration and synergy among artists to promote their craft, as well as enhance and grow their artistic efforts, Pagan said.

“Lake County’s new Artist Registry is a great thing,” said Lauren Graham Cunningham, a figurative oil painter and owner of the Lauren Graham Cunningham Gallery at 435 Dora Drawdy Way in Mount Dora. “I think one of the things many artists lack is the marketing capabilities. A lot of people have found me through the Web. I have gotten a ton of work, mainly through people from finding my Web site through another Web site.”

Several years ago, Cunningham was invited to the Biennale Firenze art festival in Florence, Italy, as a result of belonging to several artist registries.

The idea for the Lake County Artist Registry was developed by the Lake County Arts & Cultural Alliance, which is a seven-member advisory group with representatives from local municipalities.
